Pre-Medicine

Tuesday, December 9, 2025 at 6:00 PM until 6:45 PMCentral Standard Time UTC -06:00

Preparing for a future in medicine takes more than strong science skills. It calls for curiosity, compassion, and a deep understanding of people and communities. At Drake University, pre-medical students are encouraged to explore not only the biological and chemical foundations of health, but also the human stories that shape it. Through courses that integrate the sciences and the humanities, students learn to see medicine as both an art and a science, one that values empathy, communication, and cultural understanding as much as technical skill.

Drake’s pre-med pathways allow students to pursue any majors they are interested and passionate about such as Biology, Biochemistry, Cell, and Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Health Sciences, Neuroscience, Physics, and Psychology and while also engaging in interdisciplinary experiences that connect the classroom to the world around them. Small class sizes and dedicated faculty mentors provide the personalized support students need to chart their own unique paths to medical, dental, and other professional schools.

This session will highlight how Drake students build a strong foundation for their future careers through research, clinical shadowing, internships, and community engagement. You will also hear directly from current students involved in the Pre-Med Club & HOSA: Future Health Professionals as they share how Drake has helped them combine their passion for science with the power of human connection, paving their own stories as the next generation of compassionate healthcare leaders.
